Bundled up and went for a walk at the Lake yesterday and rewarded by seeing a large group of Canadian geese accompanied by seven swans a swimming (although only six are in the photo).

One of a flurry (not sure what a group is actually called) of Cedar Waxwings attacking the Pokeberries this evening. Another sign that autumn is here.

Ok... not a great photo. It was getting dark when I spied this Sphinx Moth visiting the Hostas in the back yard. (I was excited I got any image at all.) It was fun to watch as it visited many of the blossoms. The Hostas have also been popular with a couple of hummingbirds this week.

As I was walking along the dam at Belva Deer Lake, I spied this hummingbird down by the shore.

Tense Moment

New route for a walk tonight. Spotted these three ducks in a yard on the other side of the highway. As I watch, they decide to cross the highway (I'm assuming to get back to their yard where their chicken friends were hanging out, the chickens having not "crossed the road"). The three head out into the highway, and in the not too far distance I can hear a semi truck coming down the highway. Would it slow down? Would they make it? He did and they did. (Thanks to the kind-hearted truck driver.)

I had to post this photo because it just made me laugh. I was driving home after my walk and saw the deer at the edge of the woods. I didn't want to get out of the car because I thought the deer would move. I also was unable to find a place without grass on the roadside. So with the auto focus on, the grass is quite "in focus". Can you see the deer?

An Indigo Bunting (lower right) shares the line with several Barn Swallows.

I was out weeding tonight (it was cool in the breeze), when I spied this Tree Frog, who was kind enough to wait until I got my camera and then pose. (Didn't get a good photo of his bright yellow legs, though.)

Usually I don't see many Meadowlarks on my walks, but last week they were in abundance - this one was singing away, high in a tree.

Have seen a little family of Cottontails on my evening walk. Can you find the little bunny in the photo?

I don't often see the fledgling cardinals, but tonight I spied this little one sitting in the lilac bush as I was coming home from my evening walk.

This evening's elusive bird was the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. This was taken at Belva Deer Lake.

Almost every evening on my walk, I hear the Common Yellowthroat, but seldom see it. I might catch a shadow in a bush, or see it flitting away. Tonight I got a slightly better look.

The Wrens in the back yard have been singing and singing.

Busy night for birds in the backyard tonight. Cardinals, Robins, Wrens and I saw that the Catbirds are back.

The Black Walnut trees are finally starting to leaf out. A Grackle takes note in the high branches.

On Sunday's walk in the woods, spotted many mushrooms and other fungi - except for the kind we were specifically looking for (morels).

There were even gooseberry bushes in bloom...

Another weekend walk in the park. The trees were already starting to leaf out and the wild flowers were popping up all over - Spring Beauties, Dutchman's Britches, Bloodroot, Anemones, Trout Lilies and May Apples!

Went for a walk in the park this afternoon and saw a flash of blue. The Bluebird was kind enough to sit in the open long enough for me to take a couple of photos.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, although a bit windy and cloudy by the time I went out to Belva Deer Park for a walk. Saw about 20 Turkey Vultures "wind surfing". Can you find the two vultures in the photo? (Hint: lower left and upper right.)

Birds at the feeder today - English Sparrows, Cardinals, Chickadees, Juncos and this Nuthatch.

Yesterday there were two Chickadees flitting around the birdfeeder. This one stopped moving long enough for me to take a quick photo.

View out the west window - Starlings feasting on the cedar berries.

As I looked out the kitchen window this morning, I noticed a flurry of activity at the fall aster flower bed - Juncos and a sparrow.

Went for a drive yesterday - a sunny, but very windy day. Spotted this Kestral on a signpost.
